I had done this one a couple of weeks ago when this bill was signed by President Obama. The way I understand it is that the money for this social program will come from an increased tax on cigarettes. If that is true I am curious why there is a lot of money set aside in the new stimulus bill for smoking cessation. Logically speaking, health care for kid's is a noble cause and taxing something that causes health care issues makes sense in a rationalization sort of way but then paying for a program that cuts into your revenue base derails the whole fuzzy logic thought process. I mean, although I know it will never happen, what if everyone is successful in quitting smoking? Where does the money come from then? Do the kids loose there health care benefits or do you raise the alcohol tax? It just boggles my mind. If you haven't figured it out by now, I do these cartoons as an exercise to keep my head from exploding. Enjoy and have a great day.
Ira it that double edged mouth again. What comes out of one side of their mouth does not match what comes out the other side. Now here is the logic. It is so simple it goes unnoticed to most. We give health care to kids of families that can't afford to buy it and we look great. Good job, how decent of them. Then, because many young and low income are hooked on cigarettes, we tax them to help pay for it. You see the logic is they won't buy health care but they will buy cigarettes. I know first hand from working in a C store. The cigs come first even before food. Then as they become older they get sick and since they have no insurance they do two things a] they get socialized help that the haves pay for. It keeps politicians necessary, job security. Part B] is they die and early death. I hope this helped because it is what it is even though it sounds ludicrous. Best wishes, Robert Ira, you have to think like them.Hey Robert,Thanks, good explanation by the way. I had similar experiences in the Cable television business. Take care.Ira
