I was listening to commentary on 2008 in review and the different things that happened throughout the year. As I listened, I wondered how my friends the elephant and donkey thought the last year went. As I thought about what their reflections might be, it also occurred to me that they might also get into a discussion of what the New Year might bring. It would seem to me that there are really only three possibilities for this next year. It will either get better, worse or stay the same. I think a lot of it depends on weather or not we the people gain any type of confidence in the systems that tend to have some control over our lives. If that can be achieved then I think at least perceptively things will be better. If not, then things will most likely stay the same. The third and possibly worst would be that more confidence is lost or damaged and things get worse. I have no idea where it is going but I do believe it will be no less than an exciting ride no matter what direction we end up taking. Enjoy and have a great day.

Hi Sue,

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed the cartoon.

I know what you mean by this comment. It's a tough sell in our society. If it doesn't come in a "Happy Meal or "Drive through" format it doesn't happen. What I mean is that instant gratification or lack of sacrifice has become a permanent fixture or to be totally dramatic, an addiction here and until we get some of that back I'm not sure what the outcome will be. I think your right in that if more of us do and more importantly teach those principles, it just plain works better over the long haul and theoretically it will eventually again become "Cool" to be positive and have goals that take a little longer to achieve than a season of "American Idol". :)

Ok, I've stepped down off the soap box. Thanks again and best wishes to you and yours.

Ira
